Design a Washer and Nut | Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Design a Washer and Nut | Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Designing a washer nut in SolidWorks is a great way to advance your CAD skills. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create a washer nut using features like Revolve, Revolve Cut, and the Thread tool. We’ll also assign AISI Stainless Steel 316 to give it a professional, durable finish.

Here’s how to design a washer nut in a few simple steps:

Steps to Design a Washer Nut:

  1. Revolve the Basic Shape:

    • Begin by sketching a cross-sectional profile of the washer nut on the front plane.
    • Use the Revolve feature to rotate this profile around the central axis, forming the cylindrical body of the nut.
  2. Create the Washer Shape:

    • Sketch the profile of the washer part of the nut.
    • Apply Revolve Cut to create the inner and outer dimensions, giving the nut its washer-like shape.
  3. Add Internal Thread:

    • Use the Thread feature to add internal threads to the central hole of the washer nut.
    • Select the correct thread type and size to match your specifications.
  4. Assign Material:

    • Right-click the model and select Material > Edit Material.
    • Choose AISI Stainless Steel 316 to ensure the nut is both strong and resistant to corrosion.
